1,000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN

Families are invited to join the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program at the Flagg-Rochelle Public Library beginning March 20th. This program is a nationwide challenge that encourages parents and caregivers to regularly read aloud to their children. By reading just one book a night, families can reach the 1,000-book goal in three years and provide their children essential early literacy skills.

Research shows that the most reliable predictor of school success is being read to during early childhood. Reading to children from an early age can help close the vocabulary gap and prepare children to enter kindergarten with the skills they need to succeed. Most importantly, sharing books with children promotes a lifelong love of books and reading.

The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program is available to all families with children between the ages of birth and five years. Registration begins March 20th and is on-going. For more information, please contact Connie Avery, Youth Services Librarian at the Library, by email at youthlib@flaggrochellepubliclibrary.org, by phone at 815-562-3431, or stop by the Library. This program is free of charge.

A reminder that the Flagg-Rochelle Public Library located at 619 4th Avenue is hosting a Blood Drive on Monday, January 30. Staff from the Rock River Valley Blood Center (RRVBC) will be there to draw blood from 1:00pm to 7:00pm. The Drive will be held inside, lower level of the Library. Drop-ins are welcome, but you may schedule an appointment by contacting Connie Avery at the Library at 815-562-3431.
RRVBC needs to collect approximately 1000 units each week to meet area patient needs. By hosting a Blood Drive, the Flagg-Rochelle Public Library is helping to save lives in our community.
If you are at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in good general health, you should be eligible to donate blood. One in three people will need blood and you never know when you or someone you love might be the one. Join us in sharing the Gift of Life
